The National Defence College Nigeria recently got a new Commandant. He is Rear Admiral Adeniyi Osinowo. The Commandant took over from Rear Admiral Samuel Alade who was the 15th Commandant of the highest military institution in Nigeria and Sub-Sahara region. The new Commandant becomes the 16th Commandant of the prestigious College.

The incumbent commandant, Rear Admiral Adeniyi Adejimi Osinowo hails from Ogun State. He was commissioned into the Nigerian Navy as a Sub Lieutenant on 1 March 1984 as a member of Regular Combatant Course 1, Nigerian Naval College Onne, Port Hacourt. The Admiral has attended several courses, home and abroad. Some of these courses include; Specialist Communication Course, International Joint Operation Planning Course, Principal Warfare Course, Port Management Course and National Defence College. Some of the civil qualifications obtained by the Admiral include, Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, with a first class, from the Obafemi Awolowo University IIe-Ife, Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, University of Lagos, Master in International Affairs and Diplomacy, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Admiral Osinowo also holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in International Relations from the Commonwealth University.
In the course of his sojourn in the Nigerian Navy he has held several appointments, but the last 2 appointments he held before being appointed as the 16th Commandant of the National Defence College are Flag Officer Commanding Naval Training Command, Lagos and Chief of Training and Operations, Naval Headquarters. He has the following decorations in his honour: Grand Service Star (GSS), pass staff course dagger ( psc+), fellow of the defence college dagger (fdc+), Bachelor of Science (BSc), Master of Science (MSc), Master in International Affairs and Diplomacy (MIAD), Member Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D).
He served as Deputy Commander African Partnership Station onboard the United States Warship USS GUNTON HALL, where he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal by the former President, United States of America, Barrak Obama in 2011.
The Admiral has triumph as a member of African Union Commission Expert Team 2010-2013 on Development of Africa’s Integrated Maritime 2050. He was also a member of Expert Team on development of ECOWAS Integrated Maritme Strategy and Establishment of ECOWAS Zone Multi-National Maritime Coordination Centre in Benin Republic. He is married to Mrs Anthonia Chinenye Osinowo and the marriage is blessed with children.
His hobbies include, reading, writing and travelling.
