National Defence College Course 33 Participants Commence Regional Study Tour

Participants of Course 33 from the National Defence College (NDC), Nigeria, have embarked on a regional study tour across six African countries – Algeria, Benin, Egypt, Senegal, Tanzania, and Togo. The tour aims to deepen the participants’ understanding of international affairs, strategic security dynamics, and foster international cooperation.

Leading one of the teams, NDC Commandant Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Olotu visited the Egypt Military Academy for Postgraduate and Strategic Studies, where he engaged in discussions with the Academy’s Commandant, Major General Abdul Mahmoud. Their talks focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, economic development, and addressing regional security challenges. Admiral Olotu also toured the Higher War College and the National Defence College of Egypt, meeting with their respective Commandants, Major General Ramadan Fathi Ali and Major General Hussem Hassein Ukkashah. He emphasized that these engagements provide a vital platform for sharing insights on defence strategies, military education, and collaborative security efforts.

Highlighting NDC Nigeria’s contributions to capacity-building in Nigeria and the subregion, Admiral Olotu noted that the Regional Study Tour enhances participants’ appreciation of geopolitical and socio-economic dynamics while strengthening bilateral relations. He also called for deeper military ties between Nigeria and Egypt, including collaboration between the 2 countries’ armed forces and closer collaboration between NDC Nigeria and Egypt’s military institutions.

Additionally, the Commandant visited the Nigerian Embassy in Cairo, where he discussed regional stability, defence cooperation, and economic development with embassy officials. He emphasised that the study tour underscores NDC’s commitment to broadening strategic perspectives, fostering international partnerships, and contributing to regional peace, security and development.
