Maj Gen Ken Emeka Chigbu hails from Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State. He was granted Regular Combatant Commission as a member of 43 RC on 21 Sep 96 in the rank of Second Lieutenant with seniority on the same rank effective 16 Aug 91. He is of the Infantry Corps.
The senior officer has attended several courses commensurate to his rank in his career path. Some of the courses include Young Officers Course Infantry, Unit Air Defence Course, Company Commander, and Commanding Officers’ Courses at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Jaji. Others include the Junior and Senior Staff Courses at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College and Jaji and National Defence Course at Abuja. He holds a Bachelor in Engineering Degree (Mechanical) and 2 Masters Degrees in International Affairs and Diplomacy in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and Strategic Studies (Security Sector Management) from the University of Ibadan.
Maj Gen Chigbu has held several command, staff, and instructional appointments. Some of these appointments include Platoon Commander in 146 Battalion Calabar, Company Commander in 103 Battalion Enugu, and Commanding Officer 222 Battalion Ilorin. Others include Staff Officer Grade II Courses in the Defunct Army Headquarters Department of Training and Operations, Abuja; Staff Officer Grade II Operations in 2 Division, Ibadan; Staff Officer Grade I Training in 82 Division, Enugu; and Assistant Director, Military Secretary I in Army Headquarters Department of Military Secretary, Abuja. Maj Gen Chigbu also held the appointment of Desk Officer Current Military Operations Service in United Nations Headquarters New York, Deputy Director Training in the Defunct Army Headquarters Department of Training and Operations, and Chief of Staff in Headquarters 6 Division, Port Harcourt, Deputy Military Secretary I, Army Headquarters Department of Military Secretary Abuja, Commander 2 Brigade and Deputy Theater Commander, Operation HADIN KAI in Maiduguri, Borno State. The senior officer was equally an instructor at the Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria and Directing Staff at the National Defence College Abuja. He served at the Army Headquarters Department of Special Services and Programmes as Deputy Chief Special Services and Programme (Protocol) and as Deputy Chief of Operations at the Army Headquarters Department of Operations (A), Campaign Planning. He is currently the Deputy Commandant, National Defence College, Nigeria. An appointment he took up on 21 Jul 26.
The senior officer got his promotions as and when due. He was promoted to the rank of major general effective 16 Aug 23.
The senior officer has earned several honours and awards in the progression of his career. His notable honours and awards include: Distinguished Service Star, Passed Staff Course, Distinguished Fellowship of the Defence College Dagger, and Command Medal.
Maj Gen Chigbu is married and blessed with 3 children. At his leisure, he enjoys making friends and listening to music.
