NDC Nigeria Embarks On Geo-Strategic World Study Tour for Course 33
The National Defence College (NDC) Nigeria has embarked on a Geo-Strategic World Study Tour for Course 33 participants, scheduled to take place from 16 to 31 May 2025. The tour encompasses visits to 17 countries: Norway, Indonesia, Brunei, Serbia, Pakistan, Romania, Croatia, Slovakia, Belgium, Bangladesh, France, United States of America, Bulgaria, Greece, Malaysia, Qatar, and Gabon.

This global tour is an essential component of the academic curriculum, designed to conclude Module 9 of the Course, which focuses on International Affairs and Regional Studies. The primary objective is to expose participants to the dynamics of international relations, fostering a deeper understanding of how modern states interact, collaborate, and manage global challenges within the framework of globalization.
During the tour, Course 33 participants will assess the strategic environment of their host countries, examine patterns of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, and explore institutional responses to regional and global issues. The exercise is aimed at evaluating the linkages and interdependence within the international system, enhancing the strategic thinking and policy awareness of senior officers.
In Indonesia, participants of Group 9, led by the Commandant of the College, Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Morakinyo Olotu, visited the Nigerian Embassy in Jakarta. They were warmly received by the Chargé d’Affaires, Mr. Thomas Eze Nduka. In his welcome address, Mr. Nduka encouraged the participants to take full advantage of the visit to learn from Indonesia’s developmental experience, particularly its success in promoting small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs). He highlighted the cultural and historical parallels between Nigeria and Indonesia, their shared developmental challenges, and the cordial diplomatic relations between the two nations.
Rear Admiral Olotu expressed sincere appreciation to the Embassy for facilitating the visit, the warm reception, and the invaluable support extended to the team. He reiterated the purpose of the study tour, noting that the National Defence College plays a critical role in preparing senior military officers and their civilian counterparts for strategic leadership. “The College equips them with the knowledge and skills necessary to tackle both domestic and international challenges effectively,” he said.
The visit featured a robust interactive session between the participants and Embassy officials, focused on the theme: “Small and Medium Scale Enterprises in Indonesia: Lessons for Nigeria.” Discussions offered rich insights into Indonesia’s policy frameworks, institutional support systems, and practical strategies that could be adapted to foster SME development in Nigeria.
As part of the ongoing study tour, participants are also scheduled to visit the Indonesian Ministry of Defence and other relevant institutions. These engagements are designed to enrich their research and broaden their understanding of Indonesia’s strategic landscape, economic policy, and governance structures.
