NDC Course 34 Marks International Day

In a vibrant display of cultural heritage and global solidarity, the National Defence College (NDC), hosted its Course 34 International Day and Cuisine on Saturday, 20 June 2026. The event was designed to deepen international camaraderie, foster cultural exchange and strengthen strategic networks among participants from various allied nations.

The colourful gathering brought together senior diplomats, military top brass, members of the college community, and distinguished guests to celebrate the rich tapestry of the participating countries. The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Shola Enikanolaiye, who served as the Special Guest of Honour, lauded the initiative.

Speaking through his representative, Ambassador Bukar Kahabi, the Minister emphasized that the event transcended a mere exhibition of traditional customs. “This is a celebration of diversity, mutual respect, learning, and international understanding,” Ambassador Enikanolaiye stated. “It offers officers and officials from across the globe a unique window to forge enduring professional relationships.” He further remarked that the steady influx of international participants underscores the global confidence in the NDC as a premier institution for strategic learning and cooperation. These bonds, he noted, frequently mature into critical channels for diplomatic, defence and military collaboration long after graduation.

At a time when the global community faces mounting security, political and economic headwinds, the Minister stressed that cultural engagements are vital for nurturing peaceful coexistence across linguistic and geographical borders.

Welcoming guests to the event, the Commandant of the National Defence College, Rear Admiral A Ahmed, described the International Day and Cuisine as a cherished institutional tradition. “The event reflects the College’s core philosophy,” Rear Admiral Ahmed said. “We believe in balancing rigorous academic and professional excellence with meaningful social interaction, collaboration and lifelong friendship among participants.”

The highlight of the day was the exhibition of national pavilions, where participants proudly showcased their respective heritages. The college grounds were transformed into a global village featuring:

– Traditional Cuisines: A diverse culinary showcase allowing guests to sample authentic international dishes.

– Cultural Artefacts and Attire: Displays of traditional clothing, historic banners, and photographs capturing the essence of each homeland.

– Diplomatic Networking: An open forum for informal engagement among global peers.

The event saw high-profile attendance, including ambassadors, members of the diplomatic corps, senior military officers, representatives from the National Defence College Officers’ Wives Association (NDCOWA) and the participants of Course 34.
