Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi was born on 20 July 1973 in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State. He attended Model Primary School Secretariat Road, Sokoto and Sultan Bello Secondary School Sokoto before gaining admission into the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna in August 1994 as a member of 46 Regular Course. He was commissioned into the Nigerian Army Infantry Corp on 18 September 1999. Brigadier General Sidi holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering), Masters in International Affairs and Strategic Studies, Masters in Conflict Security and Development and Masters in Security and War Studies.
He attended various courses which include Young Officers’ Course Infantry; Anti-Tank Platoon Commander Course; Unit Air Defence Platoon Commander Course; Range Management Course (Basic) and (Advance); Company Commanders’ Course as well as Junior and Senior Staff Courses. Other courses attended are Commanding Officers’ Course, Regimental Intelligence and Security Officers Course, International Humanitarian Law/Laws of Armed Conflict Course, Higher Military and Management Course, National Security and War Course and Amphibious Staff Officers Course.
Brigadier General Sidi held several command and staff appointments during the course of his career. Notably, he was Officer Commanding, 149 Battalion; Commanding Officer Rear, 195 Battalion; Officer Commanding Defence Company, Army Headquarters Garrision; Officer Commanding, Nigerian Battalion 26 United Nations Mission in Liberia; Commanding Officer, Record Office, Headquarters Infantry Corps and Centre; and Commanding Officer, 144 Battalion. He also served as Senior Instructor, Nigerian Army School of Infantry; Deputy Chief of Staff, Grade 1, Headquarters 7 Division, Nigerian Army; Chief of Staff, Guards Brigade Nigerian Army; Chief of Staff, 13 Brigade Nigerian Army; and Directing Staff, National Defence College.
The senior officer’s professional experience include participation in Operation Harmony IV Bakassi; United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL); United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL); African Stabilization Mission in Mali (AFISMA); United Nations Multi Dimensional Integrated Mission in Mali (MINUSMA); and Operation LAFIYA DOLE.
He is decorated with Distinguished Service Star, Meritorious Service Star, Pass Staff Course, Fellow War College and Distinguished Fellow Defence College (+) as well as National Security and War Course (Pakistan), Command Medal and General Operations Medal. He is a Member Nigerian Institute of Management and Member Nigerian Institute of International Affairs. He is married and blessed with children. At his leisure time, Brig Gen Sidi enjoys Travelling, Driving and Adventure.
