Commandant National Defence College Declares Open Strategic Analysis Capstone Course In Abuja

The Commandant, National Defence College (NDC), Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Olotu, has declared open the Strategic Analysis Capstone Course for Course 33 Participants in Abuja. In his opening remarks, Rear Admiral Olotu welcomed the participants and emphasised the necessity of the course in response to the rapidly evolving socio-political and economic landscape worldwide. He noted that issues that were once straightforward have now become increasingly complex, necessitating a deeper understanding of the dynamic strategic environment. According to him, this shift underscores the urgent need for enhanced capacity-building in analytical and strategic thinking to better anticipate and respond to future developments.

“As the world grows more complex, there is an increasing demand for officers and public servants who are highly skilled in analysing and predicting the ever-changing nature of our strategic environment. It is in this regard that the NDC introduced this annual event, aimed at equipping participants with the expertise to identify, define, and analyse critical issues, thereby providing informed, knowledge-based insights for decision-making,” he stated.

He further explained that the course is designed to expose participants drawn from military and strategic ministries, departments and agencies to various analytical tools and methodologies essential for assessing situations and predicting future trends, ultimately enhancing their understanding of contemporary security dynamics.

The first lecture, titled Introduction to Strategic Formulation, was delivered by Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, while Major General Obinna Onubogu, GOC 2 Division of the NA, presented a lecture on Concept Understanding and Basic Tools of Strategic Analysis.

The event’s highlight included a robust interactive session, the presentation of a commemorative plaque, and a group photograph.
