Commandant, National Defence College, Pays Courtesy Call to Chief of Naval Staff

The Commandant, National Defence College (NDC), Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, today, 12 November 2025, at the Naval Headquarters, Abuja. ​​Rear Admiral Ahmed commenced his address by expressing appreciation for the warm reception. He also congratulated Vice Admiral Abbas on his recent appointment as the Chief of Naval Staff and thanked him for the confidence reposed in him to serve as Commandant.

The Commandant briefed the CNS on key ongoing activities at the College, with a particular focus on the planned relocation to its permanent site. He noted that facilities at the new site are currently under construction and specifically appealed for the continued support of the CNS and other Service Chiefs to ensure a smooth transition. Furthermore, the Commandant solicited assistance in providing additional accommodation structures to alleviate current space challenges. ​He also highlighted two other strategic areas:

• ​Enhancing Collaboration: Ongoing discussions to strengthen partnerships with Defence Attachés.
• ​Curriculum Review: The need to update and review the structure of the College’s curriculum.

Finally, Rear Admiral Ahmed informed the CNS of the College’s plan to undertake research on key strategic projects and policy subjects for the Nigerian Navy, inviting the Naval Headquarters to provide input and collaboration in this critical area.

​In his response, the Chief of Naval Staff thanked the Commandant and his team for the visit. He commended the College for its vital role in promoting strategic-level military education and reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s unwavering commitment to supporting its activities.

​Vice Admiral Abbas specifically emphasized the critical importance of addressing the accommodation challenges, noting the increasing intake of cadets into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) and other training institutions. He assured the Commandant of the Navy’s readiness to provide assistance to the College, particularly in its planned move to the permanent site and other areas where support is required.

​The courtesy visit was conducted in a cordial atmosphere, underscoring the strong and continued cooperation between the Nigerian Navy and the National Defence College.
