The Special Guest of Honour, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, was ably represented by Ambassador Kabir Musa, Deputy Director, Public Research and Statistics. In his remarks, Ambassador Musa emphasised the importance of cultural understanding as a vital instrument for global harmony, peaceful coexistence, and sustainable development. He noted that cultural diversity is not only a key driver of economic growth but also a catalyst for a more intellectually, emotionally, morally, and spiritually fulfilling life. He commended the Commandant, faculty, and staff of the College for their commitment to advancing the institution’s vision and fostering a learning environment that bridges global perspectives.

In his welcome address, the Commandant of the College, Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Murakinyo Olotu, highlighted the significance of the International Day as a strategic platform for strengthening bonds between Nigeria and its allied nations. He explained that the event is part of a broader initiative to incorporate officers from friendly countries into NDC’s curriculum, thereby encouraging the cross-fertilisation of ideas essential to effective leadership and administration.

Rear Admiral Olotu noted that the celebration provided an opportunity for allied participants to showcase the unique cultures of their home countries while experiencing the rich traditions of Nigeria’s 6 geopolitical zones. He urged participants to take full advantage of the event to deepen their understanding of one another’s heritage and values.

Also speaking at the event was Ambassador Mohammed Fouad, Ambassador of Egypt to Nigeria, who represented the Diplomatic Corps. He commended the National Defence College for fostering diplomatic engagement and mutual respect through such an inclusive and culturally enriching initiative.

The event featured a variety of cultural displays, performances, and the presentation of souvenirs to invited dignitaries, marking yet another milestone in NDC’s mission to promote global cooperation and understanding through education and diplomacy.
