NDC Commandant Pledges Support to NMS Ex-Boys’ Association, Commends Role in National Unity

The Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC) Nigeria, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the Nigerian Military School (NMS) Zaria Ex-Boys’ Association in its mission to upgrade infrastructure and academic standards at the historic institution.

Rear Admiral Ahmed gave this assurance on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, while receiving a delegation led by the National President of the Ex-Boys’ Association, Mohammed Baba Marte, at the College headquarters in Abuja.

A Legacy of Leadership and Unity

Reflecting on the 70-year history of NMS Zaria, the Commandant described the school as a “unification institution” that serves as a bedrock for national integration.

“Every NMS Ex-Boy is a complete Nigerian,” Rear Admiral Ahmed stated. “It is rare to find an Ex-Boy whose closest friends do not hail from different parts of the country. This reflects the vital role NMS plays in nation-building, which is particularly significant in our current political landscape.” He further lauded the Association for its global connectivity and mentorship initiatives, emphasizing that the NDC would continue to encourage efforts that bridge the gap between alumni and current students.

Advancing Infrastructure and Mentorship

The National President, Mohammed Baba Marte, noted that the visit served both to congratulate the Commandant on his appointment and to brief him on the Association’s recent milestones. Marte highlighted that the Association has evolved into a structured body dedicated to complementing the efforts of the Armed Forces.

Key achievements discussed include

Infrastructure: The successful remodelling of the school’s Medical Reception Station (MRS), a project funded by the former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal HB Abubakar.

70th Anniversary: The successful coordination of the school’s platinum jubilee celebrations.

Career Guidance: The implementation of mentorship programs designed to guide NMS graduates through diverse career paths.

“Our association is dedicated to preserving the legacy of NMS, which has produced men of character and leaders across multiple sectors,” Marte added.

The visit concluded with an interactive session between the delegation and senior Ex-Boy officers currently serving at the NDC. The meeting was marked by a formal exchange of mementos and a group photograph to signal continued synergy between the College and the Association.
