NDC Course 32 Embarks on Regional Study Tour
The participants of NDC Course 32 of National Defence College Nigeria on 20 February 2024 commenced African Regional Study Tour to Rwanda, Kenya, Malawi, Guinea Bisau, Morocco and Benin Republic. The Commandant of NDC, Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Morakinyo Olotu, who led Team One to Rwanda, while on a courtesy visit to the Rwandan Chief of Defence Staff, General Mubarakh Muganga, said the Regional Study Tour was an integral part of the college’s curriculum on international affairs and regional studies. Admiral Olotu said the tour was envisioned to promote functional understanding of the regional environment for security and development. He added that the objective was to facilitate participants’ understanding of specific contemporary themes of human security and development as well as to analyse the dynamics of geo-political and bilateral relations with Nigeria.
Other objectives are to facilitates participants’ understanding of international politics and how it impacts African countries. He added that it would broaden their knowledge to appreciation crucial igeo-politics issues, social and economic importance on the global arena as well as how these impact on Nigeria’s National Security and Development.
The Commandant said that the participants were expected to draw lessons for Nigeria’s security and development. “The essence of the Tour is to acquaint participants with an understanding of the dynamics of international and regional relations, as exemplified in the various lectures and the seminars already conducted in the Module. “The visit is designed to enable the participants conduct in-depth research, critical analysis with data, interrogate efforts and strategies employed by (GoR) to manage diversity in promoting national unity for enhanced National Development. “Hence, the Theme for the Tour is “Managing Diversity for National Development in Rwanda: Lessons for Nigeria,” he said.
The Rwandan CDS, General Mubarakh Muganga, commended the NDC commandant for leading the delegation to Rwanda, adding that the theme for the Study Tour is very apt. The Rwandan CDS said Rwanda has become a choice destination for many Nigerians and as such making the bond between the 2 countries stronger. He hinted that officers from Rwanda that has passed through the College has been doing well in their various fields of endeavors and that, they are working on sending more officers participate in the next course.
General Mubarakh added that the country is building on her national unity coming from the genocide that took place in the country some years back.
