NDC Nigeria Seeks Deeper Partnership With National Defence University Turkey
Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC) Nigeria, led a high-level delegation to the National Defence University (NDU) in Istanbul, Turkey, from December 8–11, 2025, to explore avenues for mutual cooperation and partnership. The core of the visit was centered on strengthening bilateral ties and identifying areas for strategic collaboration between Nigeria’s premier defence institution and Turkey’s leading military education establishment.

The Commandant, Rear Admiral Ahmed held constructive talks with the NDU leadership. The Rector was represented by the Vice Rector of the National Defence University, Rear Admiral Erhan Aydin. These discussions focused on academic exchange, sharing of best practices in strategic studies, and enhancing defence diplomacy between the two nations. The visit included detailed tours of key NDU subordinate academies, highlighting a particular interest in specialized military training and language capabilities. The delegation was hosted at the Naval Academy, where they were briefed on the institution’s curriculum, facilities, and methods for training future naval leaders.
The visit concluded with a tour of the Foreign Languages Academy. This engagement underscores the importance both nations place on developing language proficiency for effective international military cooperation and engagement.
The successful visit is expected to pave the way for formal agreements that will benefit the training and strategic capabilities of both the NDC Nigeria and the NDU Turkey.
