NDC Seeks Partnership with China’s National Defence University to Enhance Training Quality
The Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC) Nigeria, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, visited the Chinese Embassy in Abuja on Thursday 20 November 2025 to strengthen existing bilateral ties and pursue academic synergy with Chinese military institutions. Rear Admiral Ahmed met with the Chinese Ambassador, Yu Dunhai, where the primary focus of the discussion was the establishment of a strategic partnership between the NDC and China’s National Defence University (NDU).

The Commandant emphasized the NDC’s goal to continuously enhance its curriculum and training methodology. He specifically sought access to NDU China to facilitate curriculum comparison and academic exchanges, which are vital steps toward optimizing professional military education and training quality in Nigeria. “These visits underscore the National Defence College’s commitment to strategic international engagement. By collaborating with global partner like China, we aim to continually benchmark our curriculum and training standards, ensuring we produce the most capable strategic leaders for Nigeria and the wider region.”
In response, Ambassador Dunhai praised Nigeria’s commitment to combating terrorism and assured the Commandant of China’s unwavering support in the ongoing efforts to eliminate terrorism and promote sustainable economic growth across the nation.
The Commandant was accompanied by senior officials, including the Deputy Commandant, Major General KO Ukandu, the College secretary, Air Vice Marshal AI Hanidu and the College Provost, Prof AO Ahmed. Others include, Director of Coordination, Brigadier General AM Ahmadu, Director Of Academic Research and Analytical Support, Commodore RO Adoki, Director National and Geo-Political Affairs, Ambassador Akin Oyateru amongst others.
