Nigeria’s National Defence College Seeks Collaboration with Portuguese Defence College
The National Defence College (NDC) Nigeria is actively pursuing a strategic partnership with its Portuguese counterpart to enhance its academic curriculum, foster a deeper exchange of ideas, and strengthen overall academic activities. This initiative was announced by the Commandant NDC Nigeria, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, during a courtesy visit to the Portuguese Embassy on Friday 21 November 2025, in Abuja.

Rear Admiral Ahmed stated that the proposed collaboration aims to cement the already existing relationship between Nigeria and Portugal. It will focus on curriculum exchange and comparison, along with sharing other vital information to enhance academic excellence in both institutions. “The Commandant expressed his commitment towards academic excellence of NDC through mutual interaction with other countries’ Defence Colleges,” the statement read.
Responding to the proposal, the Portuguese Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Paulo Martins Santos, expressed his gratitude for the visit. He assured Rear Admiral Ahmed of Portugal’s strong desire to collaborate with institutions like the NDC in areas of training and curriculum exchange.
The Commandant was accompanied on the visit by a delegation including the Deputy Commandant, Major General KO Ukandu; the College Secretary, AVM AI Hanidu; the Director of Coordination, Brigadier General AM Ahmadu and the College Public Relations Officer, Commander AG Segun.
The visit concluded with an exchange of souvenirs and a group photograph.
