Roundtable on Treaty Management In Nigeria
The NDC will be organizing a one day Strategic Level Roundtable on Treaty Management in Nigeria on 13 February 2018 at the College Auditorium between 0800 and 1700 hours. This event is a response to the growing concern on the status of various treaties entered into on behalf of Nigeria, in terms of Ratification, Domestication and Implementation. The concern was informed by a preliminary investigation by the College Research Team and other media observations on lack of comprehensive record and effective management process of treaties in Nigeria. The roundtable is therefore, designed to aggregate views from relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) on the status of extant treaties with a view to proffer credible policy options and responses to address the observed gaps. The specific objectives are
a. Harness Expert opinion and relevant details on all treaties entered on behalf of the Federal Republic of Nigeria since independence in 1960
b. Ascertain the status of all the treaties entered on behalf of the Federal Republic of Nigeria since 1960
c. Establish the roles of respective institutions of government including the MDAs with regards to entering, ratification, domestication, depository and implementation of relevant treaties entered on behalf of the Federal Republic of Nigeria since 1960
d. Identify the treaties that require prompt and periodic reviews and recommend actions as necessary
e. Identify any other relevant measures to be adopted to enhance the Status of Treaties entered on behalf of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and their implementation by relevant institutions in Nigeria.
The Roundtable is expected to attract about 50 participants drawn from the rank of Directors as Institutional Representative at the Roundtable.
