Senate President Commissions NDC Remodelled Officers’ Mess
The Senate President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio has commissioned the newly remodelled National Defence College (NDC) Officers’ Mess in Abuja. Speaking at the commissioning Ceremony, the Senate President extolled the virtues of the Commandant NDC Rear Admiral OM Olotu and his pragmatic leadership.
He said the NDC has been a beacon of leadership, producing officers who have gone on to serve the nation, Africa, and the global community adding that the renovation is a testament to collective commitment to the welfare of military personnel and the continuous improvement of their working and living environments. Continuing, the Senate President who is also the Grand Patron of the Mess said the remodelled facility stands as a symbol of enduring respect and gratitude for the sacrifices of officers in the defence of the global community.
He stated that the Nigerian government, through the military, is creating an environment that reflects the high standards of professionalism and dedication. He further stated that the facility is equipped with modern amenities that will support the well-being and professional development of officers. “The improvement is amazing comparing to what the mess used to look like. It is a place where ideas would be exchanged, where bonds would be strengthened, and where the values of discipline, loyalty, and patriotism would be continually reinforced. I must commend all those who have worked tirelessly to bring this vision to fruition, especially the Commandant of the College,” Sen Akpabio stated.
He further added that the federal government under the leadership of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has shown unwavering support for the armed forces, and this project is yet another example of that commitment. “I am aware that you will soon move to your permanent site. I also extend my deepest appreciation to the contractors, architects, and all the personnel that contributed to making this dream a reality. We believe strongly that this will enhance the morale of our officers, providing them with a very conducive environment to unwind, to reflect, and to engage in the kind of strategic thinking that is essential for the security of the global community, not just Nigeria.”
Earlier in his welcome address, the Commandant NDC, Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Olotu thanked the Senate President for gracing the occasion. He attributed part of the success recorded by the college to support from relevant bodies like the National Assembly. Dignitaries that graced the occasion include the Senate Minority Whip, Senator Osita Ngwu, Chairman Senate Committee on Navy, Senator Gbenga Daniel, Senators, Senior government officials and principal staff officers of the College.
Highpoint of the event was the significant cutting of the commissioning ribbon, unveiling of the plaque, signing of the visitor’s book and group photograph.
