SGF Delivers Lecture To Participants Of Course 33 National Defence College
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), His Excellency Senator George Akume, has delivered a lecture to participants of Course 33, National Defence College Nigeria (NDC), in Abuja. Delivering the lecture titled, “Strengthening Institutions for National Security and Development in Nigeria,” Senator Akume said the theme of the lecture highlights the importance of robust institutions that will ensure national security and development, emphasizing the need for good security sector that operate under effective democratic oversight.
Senator Akume added that government institutions like the military, police, intelligence agencies, and the judiciary require adequate foundation that will allow economic growth to flourish in the country. He stressed the importance of building effective institutions that can deliver services to the people in the area of education, healthcare, and infrastructure development. According to the SGF, “Strong institutions are essential in promoting economic growth, reducing poverty, and creating jobs. In turn, these factors contribute to national security by reducing conflict and instability.” He also called for international cooperation that will enhance strong institutions to improve national security and development. “Collaborating with international organizations and other countries to share best practices and provide technical assistance is an important requirement in achieving this. Good governance, effective institution-building, and international cooperation can create a stable and secure environment that fosters economic growth and development,” he emphasized.
The Commandant, NDC, Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Olotu, in his remarks, thanked the SGF for making out time from his busy schedule to deliver the lecture in person to the participants and for his continuous support to the College. The Commandant also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for offering tremendous support and assistance to enable the NDC to carry out its mandate effectively.
The lecture witnessed a robust interactive session between the SGF and the participants, presentations of souvenirs, and group photographs.
