The Nexus Between NDC and Ministry of Interior Demands Increased Synergy
The Commandant National Defence College Nigeria, Rear Admiral Adeniyi Osinowo has said that the nexus between the National Defence College and the Ministry of Interior demands increased cooperation and synergy in addressing mutual areas of concern in the quest for maintenance of national security and progress being made in the North East. This he said is particularly germane as the security agencies under the Ministry of Interior remain critical to counter terrorism and counter insurgency efforts in the North East. He reiterated that the connecting principle is profound in areas of research and strategic level training on internal security and national development. The Commandant made this remarks recently when he paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General Abdulraham Danbazau (rtd) CFR PhD.
The Commandant Rear Admiral Osinowo, reiterated that he took over as commandant on the 11 August 2017 and deemed it necessary to acquaint the Minister of Interior with relevant developments in the College. He equally sought to strategically reposition the College across all spectra, such as the Centre for Strategic Research and Studies, infrastructure, national, regional and global visibility through academic engagements with Ministries, Departments and Agencies and similar international institutions. In repositioning of the Centre for Strategic Research and Studies, the Commandant said the centre has developed a 3 year work plan (2018-2020) which has been approved by the College Governing Board late last year. He emphasized that the key strands are research, special training, brain storming sessions, roundtable, capacity building and publication. The Commandant added that the activities of the strands have potentials of assisting the Ministry of Interior in the deployment of its personnel in the North East counter terrorism and counter insurgency operations.
In another development, Rear Admiral Osinowo solicited collaboration with the Ministry of Interior to man the newly built fire service stations in the College. The Commandant further solicited the cooperation of the Honourable Minister to speak to the College by sharing thoughts on internal security policies and landscape. The Commandant said, the thoughts and wealth of experience of the General will broaden participants’ understanding of the key fundamentals, critical to participants’ ability to author research works in internal security policies.
The Honourable Minister of Interior, while giving his response thanked the Commandant for deeming it necessary to visit him to share thoughts that would promote national interest. The Minister therefore, assured the commandant that immediate measures would be taking to ensure efficient collaboration between the Ministry of Interior and the National Defence College.
