Polish Head of Mission Visits National Defence College, Nigeria
The Polish Head of Mission to Nigeria, His Excellency Michal Cygan, visited the National Defence College (NDC) Nigeria, where he engaged with the Commandant and faculty members on strengthening bilateral cooperation. The visit also served to finalize ongoing discussions on defence and security training collaboration. During the meeting, Ambassador Cygan highlighted Nigeria’s strategic importance to Poland, both within Africa and on the global stage. He emphasized the need for sustainable peace in Ukraine and acknowledged Nigeria’s alignment with Poland and Europe in upholding global norms and peaceful coexistence. He also expressed appreciation for Nigeria’s stance on international peace efforts and looked forward to continued engagement.
Discussions focused on enhancing collaboration between Poland and the NDC in key areas such as training, exchange programs, expertise sharing, military technology, and defence-related research and development. Ambassador Cygan reaffirmed Poland’s interest in sharing knowledge and best practices to foster mutual growth in these fields.
In his remarks, the Commandant of the NDC, Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Olotu, underscored the institution’s hybrid role in defence, diplomacy, and geopolitical research. He welcomed the prospect of stronger ties between the NDC and its Polish counterparts, particularly as College participants prepare for an upcoming geo-strategic world study tour to Poland. Reflecting on Poland’s long-standing diplomatic relations with Nigeria, both parties recalled past collaborations in technical training for Nigerian professionals. They also exchanged views on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, with the NDC leadership expressing sympathy for the challenges Poland faces and hope for a positive outcome from international peace efforts.
Recognizing the NDC’s pivotal role in defence research and development, the Commandant expressed interest in deepening collaboration with Poland in this critical area. He reaffirmed the College’s commitment to fostering strategic partnerships that contribute to regional and global peace and security.
