National Defence College (NDC), Nigeria Held A Strategic-Level Defence and Security Management Course to Strengthen Inter-Agency Cooperation
The National Defence College (NDC), Abuja, has commenced the second edition of its Strategic-Level Defence and Security Management Course to strengthen inter-agency cooperation and enhance Nigeria’s capacity to address evolving security threats. Declaring the course open, the Commandant, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, urged participants to critically examine existing security strategies, share professional experiences and develop innovative, practical solutions to the nation’s defence and security challenges. He emphasised that professional relationships established during the programme should translate into improved collaboration and tangible security outcomes.

In his welcome address, the Provost of the Centre for Strategic Research and Studies, Professor A. O. Ahmed, observed that security threats were becoming increasingly complex, with terrorist and criminal groups exploiting modern technology and operating across national borders. He stressed the need for security agencies to complement military operations with research, strategic analysis and non-military approaches. He also underscored the importance of continuous learning and professional development in equipping security practitioners with the knowledge and skills required to respond effectively to emerging threats.
The course brings together senior officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, personnel from paramilitary and law enforcement agencies, government officials and other professionals. It is designed to enhance participants’ capacity to formulate and implement effective defence and security policies in a dynamic national and international environment while promoting institutional cooperation and the exchange of ideas. The initiative forms part of the NDC’s broader commitment to strengthening security governance, addressing insurgency and cross-border criminal activities, and promoting peace and stability in Nigeria and the West African sub-region.
