NDC & ECOWAS to Conduct POPC
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, Abuja, in collaboration with the Centre of Strategic Research and Studies (CSRS), National Defence College (NDC), will be conducting a Peace Operations Planning Course (POPC) from 8th – 12th June 2015. The venue of the Course will be the Abdulsalami Abubakar building, CSRS, NDC.
The Department of Conflict, Peacekeeping and Humanitarian Studies (DCPHS), CSRS, NDC will be administering the Course. The POPC focuses on the planning and decision-making processes of the UN and AU, with emphasis on operational planning. The Course is aimed at equipping staff officers deployed to field missions as well as to strategic headquarters of the UN, AU and ECOWAS, with the understanding of the AU and UN planning processes, including their interface and divergences. The Course also aims to develop an integrated approach that will harmonise the efforts of a variety of actors – Civilian, Police, Military, Humanitarian and Developmental, Local and External, Governmental and Non-governmental. It is part of the salient contribution towards building the capacity of the ESF in view of operationalizing the ASF.
