On Monday 23 of November 2015, the National Defence College (NDC) Abuja, received and hosted Vice Admiral Umio Otsuka, President of Japan Maritime Self Defence Force, Command and Staff College.

Admiral Otsuka who is on a two day visit to NDC delivered a lecture titled “Japan-Nigeria Relations: Implications for Security Management in Africa” to the participants of NDC Course 24. The lecture covered various issues in the Japanese national life and her multilateral relations to Africa, and to Nigeria in particular. These include Nigeria’s economic, industrial and military relations with Japan and also Japan’s contribution towards Africa. The lecture also covers Japanese world view on national security, global peace and stability.

The Commandant of NDC, Rear Admiral SI Alade, in his welcome remarks said the significance of Admiral Otsuka’s visit cannot be overemphasized, with the expectation that it will trigger a more robust and beneficial defence partnership between the two countries. He further stated that Admiral Otsuka’s lecture has added value to Course 24 and this he believed will lead to quality change in the mutual security interest between Nigeria and Japan.

Present at the lecture were representatives of the Chief of Defence Staff and the Service Chiefs.
