GBB, National Defence College Partner to Bolster Nigeria’s Cybersecurity

In a strategic move to fortify Nigeria’s digital frontiers, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone (GBB) Limited, Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, hosted the Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC) and his high-level entourage at the GBB headquarters today, April 23, 2026. The visit, held in the GBB conference room, aimed to establish a robust framework for collaboration between the two government entities in the critical areas of cybersecurity, data management, and technical training.

During the deliberations, Professor Adeyanju emphasized GBB’s mandate as a government-owned entity responsible for managing and protecting the nation’s digital infrastructure. He pledged GBB’s full support to the NDC through training partnerships, expert exchange programs, and enhanced internet connectivity.

A significant portion of the dialogue focused on the vulnerabilities of national data. Professor Adeyanju expressed concern over the disproportionate control Western nations exert over Nigeria’s cyberspace – estimated at nearly 80% – often through unofficial espionage. He urged the Federal Government to prioritize indigenous security measures to reclaim digital sovereignty.

It was also noted that approximately 70% of the nation’s cyber landscape remains exposed to foreign interests, stressing that “all hands must be on deck to liberate our country’s digital space.”

The NDC Commandant expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and formally requested GBB’s assistance in training NDC participants and staff. Engr Nasir A Shinkafi of GBB reinforced the value of this inter-agency alliance, stating: “As sister organizations under the Federal Government, there is an inherent bond of trust and compliance that private companies cannot match. This collaboration ensures national security is handled without compromise.”

To ensure the visit yielded immediate results, both parties agreed to form a high-level Technical Committee tasked with developing a formula to strengthen Nigeria’s cybersecurity posture. The event concluded with a comprehensive facility tour of the Galaxy Backbone infrastructure, the exchange of souvenirs, and a group photograph to commemorate the budding partnership.
