History of the College Library

The Library of the National Defence College (NDC) Nigeria was established in 1992 to cater for the research and information needs of the Course Participants, Faculty Members and research fellows within and outside the College.

As a “Special Library”, the collections are mostly on Military Arts and Science, Technology, Conflict Resolution and Management, Terrorism and Counter Terrorism, Peace Building, Politics and International Relations among others.

The College library also has a liaison arrangement with other libraries like the National Library of Nigeria, Nigeria Institute of International Affairs Library, Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Secretariat Library and the University of Abuja Library. In addition, e-Library services are available at the College library.

The NDC library is located on the ground floor of the main College complex with a collection of over 15,000 titles (books/journals) covering various fields of knowledge relevant to the curriculum of the College. The library is automated and Wi-Fi friendly.

Mission

The NDC library mission is to facilitate research through the provision of current reference materials (books, journals and periodicals) and effective and efficient services in a most conducive learning environment.

Departmental Services

The library is compartmentalized into 4 departments: the technical services; serial, reference and reprographic; readers’ services and the internet workstation departments. It opens from Monday through Saturday except on public holidays from 0800hrs to 2000hrs (Monday – Friday) and 0900hrs to 1400hrs (Saturday).

Internet Work Station

The internet workstation is primarily dedicated to the participants of the College for an in-depth and comparative research work. Participants can access the our digital collections from the workstation in the library as well as access to the subscribed online libraries/journals.
