National Defence College Embark on Geo–Strategic Study Tour of States
As part of the Curriculum of the National Defence College (NDC), the NDC Participants of Course 26 recently embarked on a Geo – Strategic Study Tour of 11 states of the country from 8-14 October 2017. The Tour of States by the participants was more of a fact finding mission on the menace of unemployment and its challenges on National Security. The theme of the tour is “Youth Empowerment and National Security: Issues and prospects”. Coincidentally, the theme of the NDC Geo-Strategic Tour was in tandem with the United Nations Security Council’s adaption on historic resolution on youth empowerment, peace and security, which in the first time in its history focuses entirely on the role of youths, men and women in peace building and countering violent extremism for youth development.
Similarly, the Senate, Civil Society Organisations and Ministries Departments and Agencies recently had a round table dialogue on the alarming rate of Youth Empowerment in the Country. This makes the choice of the NDC Strategic Tour theme germane for National Security.
Consequently, there was the need to step up advocacy on youths’ empowerment on the part of government, corporate bodies and well-meaning industrialist to devote more commitments on youths’ empowerment. The selected states for these year’s Geo – Strategic Tour include, Abia , Anambra, Benue, Enugu, Gombe, Kaduna and Kano States. Other States are Kogi, Nasarawa, Ondo and Rivers States. At the completion of the 7 days Geo – Strategic Study Tour of states participants are to arrive at a constructive and erudite solutions to issues and prospects of youth’s empowerment programmes in the country.
