NCD to Host a workshop on Policing Sustainable Peace: The Role of Police/Gendarmerie Officers in the Management of Peace Support Operations
The CSRS-NDC will be hosting a workshop on Policing Sustainable Peace: The Role of Police/Gendarmerie Officers in the Management of Peace Support Operations (PSO). In multifaceted Peace Support Operations, the Military, Police, and Civilian components are all deployed. However, the police component plays an integral role in PSOs be it globally, continentally or regionally. In this regard, policing issues and the mission of the police component have become a vital part of the policy, planning and mission management structures of ECOWAS at all levels. To buttress this, currently, ECOWAS has more police than other components deployed in some of its missions.
It is based on this that the National Defence College (NDC), through the Centre of Strategic Research and Studies (CSRS) in collaboration with ECOWAS and GIZ would be conducting a training on the above subject. The course is tailored towards training the police/gendarmerie on PSO related matters, so as to build their capacity to plan for, and deploy trained and qualified officers for PSOs within the ECOWAS Commission and its Member States. The aim of this course is to build the strategic level capacity of the police component in contemporary PSOs in West Africa. The training will hold from 8 – 12 May, 2023 at the NDC.
