NDC Hosts a 5-Day Hands-on Training on Artificial Intelligence

The National Defence College (NDC) in collaboration with Artificial Intelligence (AI) giant, Carries Technologies Limited organized a 5-Day Hands-On Training of AI in Security Management from Monday 21st – Friday 25th September 2026 at the National Defence College Abuja.

This training is on the heel that that AI has become an important tool in modern security management as it enhances the ability of security organisations to prevent, detect and respond to threats effectively. Furthermore, It also supports predictive analysis, risk assessment, facial and object recognition, cyber-threat detection and automated monitoring, thereby improving situational awareness and decision-making.

Speaking at the event, the Commandant of the National Defence College Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, called for the responsible adoption and use of Artificial Intelligence in defence, security management and research, describing the technology as an unavoidable reality that must be effectively integrated into modern security operations. He said AI was transforming every aspect of human endeavour and had become an operational necessity in addressing emerging security threats across digital and physical domains.

Drawing from his engagements with defence institutions abroad, the Commandant said attempts to prohibit the use of AI were unrealistic. Whether we like it or not, AI is going to stay, and we just have to manage it and know how to make the best use of it,” he said. He added that the focus should be on responsible application rather than restriction, noting that “if you say students should not use AI in the college, when they leave the college, can you monitor them? What you should concentrate on is the responsible use of artificial intelligence.

Rear Admiral Ahmed stressed that while AI offers significant benefits for research and analysis, users must critically assess and query the information it generates.

In attendance at the training are the Provost Centre for Strategic Research and Studies Prof AO Ahmed, the Chief Facilitator Prof SN John, Research and Sabbatical Fellows as well as participants drawn from Armed Forces and other partner agencies.
