NDC Leadership Strengthens Strategic Ties: Commandant Visits President Obasanjo and Amotekun Corps in Abeokuta, Ogun State

In a significant multi-sectoral engagement aimed at bridging institutional military education with veteran statesmanship and grassroots security, the Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC), Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed today, Wednesday 8 of April 2026 led a high-powered delegation on a strategic tour of Ogun State.

The visit centered on high-level consultations with former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and a tactical interface with the Amotekun Corps, underscoring the College’s commitment to an integrated approach to national security.

The delegation first called upon former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL). This visit served as a rare strategic interface between Nigeria’s premier military training institution and one of Africa’s most seasoned diplomatic and military figures.

The Commandant briefed the former President on the NDC’s evolving mandate and its current initiatives to bolster national security. He noted that the primary objective was to “tap into His Excellency’s wealth of leadership experience and unparalleled strategic insight” regarding national development and regional complexities.

Responding to the delegation, General Obasanjo shared profound reflections on the core tenets required of modern leaders. He identified three indispensable attributes:

– Selflessness: Prioritizing the collective good over personal gain.

– Integrity: Maintaining unwavering moral principles in decision-making.

– Pedigree: Building a track record of competence and reliable character.

The former President further elaborated on the vision behind the OOPL, describing it as a living repository for historical preservation, leadership training, and the fostering of critical national discourse.

Fostering Local Security Synergy: The Amotekun Engagement

Extending the mission to the operational level of internal security, the NDC delegation also paid a courtesy visit to the Commander of the Ogun State Amotekun Corps, Brigadier General Alade Adedigba, at the Corps’ headquarters. The engagement focused on the practicalities of community-based security. Brigadier General Adedigba provided an in-depth briefing on the Corps:

– Mandate and Structure: How the outfit integrates with existing security frameworks.

– Operational Activities: Current strategies for maintaining community safety and internal security within Ogun State.

– Collaborative Roles: The importance of mutual understanding between national institutions and regional security actors.

The session fostered a constructive dialogue on the evolving nature of internal security, culminating in a traditional exchange of gifts and souvenirs as symbols of institutional goodwill.

The dual-purpose visit highlights a comprehensive view of the Nigerian security architecture, from the highest levels of strategic policy to the front-lines of community policing.

The tour concluded with group photographs at both locations, marking a successful exchange of intellectual and tactical ideas designed to advance Nigeria’s security and development agenda.
