Defence Policy, Critical Component of National Security
The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Defence Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana Said that the Nigerian Government has developed various Defence policies to ensure our Nation’s Security territorial integrity over the years. He disclosed this while delivering a lecture to Participants of National Defence College Course 31 titled “Defence Policy and Implementation in Nigeria” as part of their lecture series for module 9.
Dr Ibrahim stated that the effective implementation of Defence policies is critical to achieving Nigeria National Security objective although these objectives are prone to some challenges, these challenge poses a strain country’s defense policy implementation strategy and require sustained effort and comprehensive approaches to effectively address them.
The guest lecturer declared that Nigeria has actively engaged in regional Security initiatives fostering collaboration with neighboring countries affected by similar security challenges, this regional cooperation has facilitated information sharing, joint operations, and the pooling of resources to address common Security threats among others. He therefore stressed the role of stake holders in Defence Policy Formulations and implementation, as they contribute through their expertise.
Furthermore, Kana charged participants to engage in Defence corporation through alliances, partnership and participation in multinational security initiatives to enhance a country’s security capabilities and promote shared interests. While summing up the lecture, the Commandant of National Defence College Rear Admiral OM Olotu appreciated the Guest Lecturer for his robust lecture has it impacts knowledge to all participants and beneficiaries, he also stated that there is a need for continuous collaboration between ministry of Defence and foreign affairs policy as it involved internal and external threats.
