Federal Government Saves Billions of Naira from the implementation of Economic Recovery Growth Plan (ERGP)

The Federal Government has saved Billions of Naira from the implementation of Economic Recovery Growth Plan, (ERGP). This was made known by the Head of Service of Federation (HOS), Dr. Mrs Folashade Yemi-Esan while delivering a lecture titled “Digitalised Civil Service and National Development in Nigeria” to the Participants National Defence College (NDC) Course 29 at the College premises on Tuesday 6 October 2020.

She stated that the ERGP has as one of its broad objectives the promotion of digital led growth, aimed at making the Nigerian economy more competitive in the 21st century global economy.   Dr. Yemi – Esan further informed that government has already digitalised some of its administrative processes which are functioning very well. These according to the HOS include, Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS); Whistle Blowing Portal; Open Treasury Portal; and The Integrated Payroll & Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

Dr. Yemi-Esan said government had saved a total of 361 Billion naira from pay roll clean up, while 120 Billion Naira was projected to be saved from the implementation of the Human Resource (HR) Module.  In her words: “It is most gratifying to inform that the aforementioned initiatives by government have resulted in huge savings for the country which can be channelled towards funding other critical sectors of the economy thereby contributing to national development. For instance, the IPPIS, from 2017 to 2019 has been able to save the nation about N361 billion from the payroll clean-up. In addition, the ongoing implementation of the Human Resource (HR) Module has a projected savings of about N120 billion”.

While concluding her lecture, the HOS called on the stakeholders to unite for the optimal restoration and professional functionality of the Public Sector in all ramifications. Speaking at the occasion, the Commandant, Rear Admiral Makanju Mackson Kadiri, commended the HOS on the lecture, noting that the participants of the College were now better informed on some of the reforms being carried out by Government.

The lecture was part of Firm Programme for NDC Course 29, Week 5, Module 2, State and Socio-Political Environment, sponsored by the Department of National Geo-Political Affairs (DNGA).
