Brigadier General Abdullahi DADAN-GARBA (Rtd)

 

Brig Gen Abdullahi Dadan-Garba [Rtd] was born on 29 January 1958 at Gamawa, Bauchi State. He attended Gamawa Primary School from 1965 -1972, Government Secondary School Azare, from 1972-1979 and University of Maiduguri where he graduated with BSc in Sociology in 1981. Dadan-Garba did his NYSC in Ogun State from 1981-1982. He got a job with the Bauchi State Government in 1983. It was from there he got admission into the Nigeria Defence Academy Kaduna. He was commissioned into the Nigeria Army as a Lieutenant in December, 1983. Dadan-Garba has Diploma in Criminology and Master Degree in Security Studies.

Since his commission, Dadan-Garba has attended 15 Military Courses among which were Military Police Officers Basic, MG Platoon Commander, Young Officer (Infantry), and Surveillance Platoon Commander Courses. Others were Court Martial Procedure, Range Management Basic and Advance, Criminal Investigation Special Agent Course in the USA, and Police Administration/ Security Management Course. He had his Junior and Senior Division Course at the Armed Force Command and Staff College, Jaji. He also attended the Company Commanders’ and Commanding Officers’ Courses. He did his Defence College Course in Bangladesh in 2008. Dadan-Garba was promoted to the rank of Captain in 1987, Major in 1993, Lieutenant Colonel in 2001, Colonel in 2005, and Brigadier General with effect from 15 June, 2009.

Dadan-Garba held many appointments some of which were Platoon and Company Commander. He was Commander of the famous Special Investigation Bureau,Apapa Lagos. He was the Military Assistant to the Chief of Staff, Commander Nigerian Contingent ECOMOG, Liberia from December 1993-January 1995. Dadan-Garba also served on the Peace Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC) from 2004-2005. He was the Colonel Administration and later Colonel General Staff (Chief of Staff) of the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police. He was an instructor at the Nigerian Defence Academy, and Chief Instructor, Nigerian Army School of Military Police. He served as SOII Administration in the then National War College. He was the Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser, until his posting to the National Defence College as a Directing Staff with effect from 12 April 2010.

Dadan-Garba was honoured with the Force Service Star (FSS), Meritorious Service Star (MSS), and Distinguished Service Star (DSS). He was awarded the ECOMOG and MONUC Medals. He retired from service with effect from 17 December 2012. He is now a Directing Staff at the NDC, Abuja. Dadan-Garba is married with children. His hobbies include jogging and reading.
