Air Commodore Emmanuel Alu Wonah – Faculty Member/Directing Staff (DS)
Born 5 November 1968, Emmanuel Alu Wonah hails from Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State. He had his early education at St Joseph Primary School Okuku, between 1972 and 1978, and Mary Knoll College, Ogoja between 1978 and 1984. In 1985, he secured admission to the Nigerian Defence Academy as a member of 37 Regular Combatant Course. On completion of cadetship training, he was commissioned to the rank of pilot officer in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on 23 September 1990.
Wonah was at Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT); then 320TTG, Kaduna between October 1989 and May 1991 for his initial aircraft Orientation Engineering Course (OEC 002). On course completion, he was posted to NAF 303 Flying Training School (303FTS), Kano as Aircraft Maintenance Officer. He thereafter held several other appointments while serving at 303FTS. Notable among which were OC Elect/Avionics (MB-339A and L-39ZA jet aircraft) Squadron, OiC TL-39 Aircraft Flight Simulator, OC PASS and Mechanical Transport Officer. Other appointments are Aide d’Camp to Military Administrators of Ogun and Rivers States, SO1 Stats/Eval HQ NAF (DAE), Directing Staff (SC) Armed Forces Command and Staff College AFCSC), Lecturer/Secretary School of Postgraduate Studies AFIT, Group Logistics Officer 201 Heavy Airlift Group, Chief Instructor (SC), AFCSC and Dean School of Postgraduate Studies, AFIT. He is currently a Directing Staff at the National Defence College, Nigeria.
Emmanuel had attended several courses, workshops, seminars and conferences. Some of which are local type-rating courses on MB-339, L-39 and C-130 aircraft electrical and avionics systems, ICAO Safety Management System (SMS), Aircraft Accident Investigation (Pakistan), Quality Assurance (Pakistan), Cranfield University Lecturer Certification (UK), Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency (CTCOIN), Project Management Course (ASCON) and Management of Complex Organizational Problems (Kaduna Business School). Emmanuel also attended the 1999 Off-Shore Technology Conference in Houston (Texas USA) and the Nigerian Institute of Safety Professionals (NISP) International Conference (Abuja 2009).
Wonah holds a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering (MEng), MSc in Strategic Studies, a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics, and Certificates in Aircraft Accident Investigation, Quality Assurance, Project Management and ICAO SMS among others. He is a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM) and an aspiring member of the Nigerian Institute of Safety Professionals. His decorations include FSS, MSS, psc(+), fdc, etc. Emma is married to Mrs Freda Wonah. Their union is blessed with 2 boys; Lemuel and Ezra. His hobbies include watching documentary videos, acquiring and impacting knowledge and listening to gospel tunes. He also enjoys jogging, long distance driving and nature-watching.
