Oyo State Gov Calls for Constitutional Reform of LGAs To Build Resilience At Grassroots Level In Nigeria

Oyo State Governor, HE Engr Oluseyi Makinde has called for constitutional reform of Local Government Areas through provision of more resources and financial autonomy in order to build resilience at the grassroot level in Nigeria. Gov Makinde made the call while delivering a lecture titled  “Building Resilience at the Grassroots in Nigeria: Local Government Administration in Perspective” to the National Defence College, NDC Course 31 Participants in Abuja. The Lecture is part of College Firm Programme for Week 4 on Module 2 (The State and Socio-Political Environment) sponsored by the Directorate of National Geo-Political Affairs.

The Governor, who earlier in his address commended Nigerian military on its effort to checkmate insecurity in the country, stated that Local Government councils were important administrative element of governance, as well as, for good representation. While summing up the Lecture, the Deputy Commandant/Director of Studies, Major Gen PE Eromosele, who lauded the Guest Lecturer, assured the Governor on behalf of the NDC Course 31 Participants to subject the Lecture to further intellectual interrogation.

On the entourage of the State Governor were the South-West PDP Chairman, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja; Chairman Oyo State Advisory Council, Senator Hosea Agboola; Senator Monsura Sunmonu; Commissioner for Trade and Commerce and Chief Bayo Lawal among others.
